Abortion - A Woman Has The Right To Choose

On the pro-abortion side the arguement seems to be all about women having the right to choose what they can and can not do with their bodies. I'm against abortion, but I believe God has given us free will--which allows women to chose what they do with their bodies. (There is another ethical question here I'll discuss in the future.)

This means women may chose to engage in activities that result in conception or not engage in those actitivies. A woman can chose what she does with her body. To have sex or not engage in sex. Her choice. However, once a woman is pregnant, there are two lives involved. Two bodies involved. And she does not have the right to chose death for someone else just because it is inconvenient for her.

From the moment of conception the new baby has different DNA than the mother. The baby is a different person than they mother. The baby is dependent on the mother for survival, but the baby is not part of the mother's body. The woman is now a mother and is responsible for another life.

When tissue from another person is put into our body, such as for a kidney transplant, our body recognizes it as not belonging to us and tries to reject it and kill it. It has recently been discovered that the a pregnant woman's body sees a baby as foreign material and attempts to reject it. The mother's immune system attempts to kill the baby--however, the baby produces a hormone that turns off the mother's rejection of the baby. In other words, the mother's body sees the baby as NOT BEING PART OF THE MOTHER. The mother's body rejects the baby as not belonging. It is only because the baby protects itself that it is not rejected by the mother's body.

Scientifically and medically a baby is not a part of the mother's body. A woman may have the freedom to control her own body, but she does not have the right to kill another person--the baby within her who is a separate and distinct person. She made the choice about what she wanted to do with her body when she engaged in activities the result in the conception of a baby.
